One Leaf Brings Autumn
Yesterday, rain fell the whole day. This morning, to my surprise, I found a single red leaf on the maple tree.
In Chinese we have a saying: 一叶知秋 — “One leaf tells you autumn has arrived.” Just one small leaf can already reveal the change of season.
After summer, the rains moisten the earth that has been heated for nearly three months. The air cools down, little by little, after the showers. Slowly, we grow used to the lower temperatures. Yet no one would immediately say that autumn has already come.
Nature, however, follows its own rhythm, keeping to its own plan. We can only discover the shift of seasons through the quiet signs it offers us. Just like this little leaf: once its color has changed, it carries a gentle message — autumn is here.
